About Jumbo Oat Flakes

Are they good for you?

Jumbo Oat Flakes are high in potassium, have useful amounts of calcium and are also a fair source of protein whilst being high in soluble fibre (great for healthy digestion and proven to help lower cholesterol). They are also moderately rich in B vitamins, B1, B2 and especially inositol, and their carbohydrates provide a long slow delivery of energy to our systems. They can be useful in preventing heart disease and maintaining healthy circulation. They also contain beta glucans which boost the immune system.

What can they be used for?

To include porridge oat flakes in your diet:

  • Soak overnight in water/almond milk/liquid of your choice for a tasty, healthy breakfast - top with fruit, nuts or honey to suit your mood
  • Make flapjacks
  • Add to your usual crumble mixture for a lovely taste & texture
  • Mix with other flakes, nuts and dried fruits to make your own muesli
  • How do you store them?

Store Jumbo oat flakes in an airtight container in a cool dark place for up to 12 months.
Store unopened in a cool dark place for up to 24 months

    What is a serving size?

    A serving size is 40gm

Absolutely 💯 the best porridge I’ve ever tasted. First time I tested it in a monastery. I decided to sharing this special porridge as you know with two monasteries.

I really like using jumbo oat flakes as it gives the porridge more texture. They also work well in flapjacks if you like something a bit chewier

    Bircher Muesli Recipe

Summary: This is The Original Apple Bircher Muesli recipe, as can be found in the book 'Health-Giving dishes' by Dr Bircher-Benner, first published in 1934 ! Swiss Bircher-Benner advocated eating MUESLI (Dietetic Fruit Dishes) as an integral part of the daily diet (to be eaten for breakfast and supper). The original recipe calls for condensed milk, but you can use yoghurt instead. I like to use coconut milk or oat cream for a vegan muesli.
