Black Bean Chilli with Chocolate

You might like your chocolate sweet, but chocolate in savoury dishes is a classic in Mexican cuisine. Try this chocolate chilli and be surprised at how fantastic it actually tastes.

2 tbsp ground cumin More products
2 tbsp red chili powder More products
2 400g tins black beans, rinsed well and drained More products
about 140g tomato puree Available only in our Tollcross shop More products
1 tin chopped tomatoes, with the juice More products
2 tbsp dried oregano More products
50g excellent quality dark chocolate

Method

  • Heat 1 tbsp broth in a medium size soup pot.
  • Sauté the onion and bell pepper in the broth over medium heat for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until translucent.
  • Add the garlic, cumin, and red chilli powder and continue to sauté for another minute.
  • Add 1 cup broth and the remaining ingredients, except for the corn and cilantro.
  • Simmer for another 20 minutes uncovered, adding more stock if needed.
  • Add corn and cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Add chopped cilantro and season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.
