Asian style Broccoli with Tofu

Broccoli is an excellent source of vitamins and also contains health-promoting sulphur compounds with important benefits for your liver and body. Combined with carrots or another vegetable of your choice and tofu for protein, you will have a complete meal in a matter of minutes that looks and tastes great!

You will need

400g broccoli florets cut into quarters More products
2 medium carrots, sliced thin More products
200g tofu cut into cubes Available only in our Edinburgh shops More products
3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil More products
2 tsp lemon juice More products
2 medium cloves garlic More products
1 tbsp tamari (soy sauce) More products
2 tbsp grated ginger More products
1 tbs rice vinegar More products
red pepper flakes or chilli flakes to taste More products

Method

  • Fill bottom of steamer with 5 cm of water.
  • While the steam is building up, cut broccoli florets into quarters and let them sit for 5 to 10 minutes, this can enhance their health giving properties by allowing sulphur containing compounds to form once cell walls have been broken.
  • Also cut the stems into half cm pieces or just thin slices.
  • Press or chop garlic and let sit for at least 5 minutes, for similar reasons,
  • Add tofu and sliced carrots to steamer and steam for 2 minutes.
  • Add broccoli and steam for 5 more minutes.  
  • Toss with rest of ingredients.
