Fuji is surely one of the more attractive modern apple varieties. Developed in Japan, but an all-American cross of Red Delicious and Ralls Janet. A very attractive modern apple, crisp, sweet-flavoured, and keeps well. Its main characteristic is the lovely pink speckled flush over a yellow-green background. It is also crisp and juicy, with dull white flesh which snaps cleanly. The flavour is predominantly sweet and very refreshing (especially if slightly chilled).
Apples are a good source of dietary fibre and vitamin C. Most of the apple's fibre is contained in its skin, as is the majority of its quercetin, a potent antioxidant. Choosing organically grown apples means that you can avoid any pesticide residues or petroleum-based waxes in the skin.
