Kale Pesto and Pasta

A brilliant way of sneaking kale or other leafy greens past fussy eaters.

You will need

250g pasta More products
about 100g green curly kale OR More products
about 100g cavalo nero kale

You can use spinach or swiss chard instead of kale
2 to 4 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed More products
a handful pine nuts More products
3 tbsp double cream Available only in our Edinburgh shops More products
50g hard cheese, optional Available only in our Edinburgh shops More products
1 tbsp olive oil More products
half tsp grated nutmeg, optional More products
pinch of salt More products

  • Heat the oil in a pan and sauté the garlic for under 2 minutes.
  • Wash the kale well and chop it roughly. Add to the garlic pan. Cover and cook for 2 minutes, until the kale starts to wilt.
  • Put the pine nuts in a food processor and blitz until well crumbled. Add the double cream and nutmeg, if using. Blitz again.
  • Add the kale and garlic. Process until smooth. Season with the salt and grated hard cheese if using.
  • Cook the pasta al dente, following the instructions on the packet.
  • Add the kale pesto to the pasta and mix well.
  • Serve hot.
