About Blanched Fine Ground Almonds

Ground almonds (also known as almond flour or almond meal) is popular for baking sweets, cakes and biscuits. They add moistness and a rich nutty taste to your favourite recipes. All our ground and flaked almonds are blanched (the brown skin is taken of the almonds before grinding them). The consistency is more like corn meal than wheat flour. It is used in pastry and confectionery - in the manufacture of almond macaroons and other sweet pastries, in cake and pie filling, and is one of the two main ingredients of marzipan and almond paste. In France almond meal is called frangipane and is an important ingredient in the traditional Galette des Rois cake.

Almonds contain protein and the amino acid tryptophan - which is a proven mood booster.

Customer reviews

I use ground almonds as a gluten free flour substitute in baking. Much more nutritious than wheat flour, works for pales diet too.

By Leah Houghton on 29/09/2013

I use these ground almonds where the recipe asks for almond flour and it works really well. The Chewy Almond Cookies are great.

Real Foods Vintage Christmas Cake Recipe

Summary: This is our Vintage Christmas Cake recipe, that we used to give out to customers in our stores in the late 70s. Many traditional Christmas cake recipes recommend maturing the cake over 2-3 months, and this one is no exception, although the cake is delicious to eat right away as well. But many recipes are made with a whole host of ingredients that modern bakers today can’t use, be it for health or ethical reasons, such as wheat (containing gluten), or dairy. Our vintage Real Foods recipe allows you to cater for a modern world full of food intolerances and ethical choices that weren’t so prevalent even just a decade ago. Don't just follow this recipe ... Be adventurous and creative ... use coconut, chestnut flour, cashews, hazels, pecans, sunflower or sesame seeds, apple rings or peaches or pears ... just remember to keep proportions of dry goods and liquids correct, and do share your favourite variation with us. HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY HOGMANAY
