Short crust pastry:

225g wholemeal flour (or plain) More products
pinch of salt More products
water to mix
Cheese and onion filling:
1 large onion finely chopped More products
1 large potato finely chopped This item is only available in our high street shops. More products
100g grated cheddar cheese This item is only available in our high street shops. More products
1 tsp dried herbs More products
2 tsp vegetable stock powder More products
salt More products
pepper More products
a little water to combine

Method

  • Preheat oven to gas mark 7, 220 deg cel.
  • Sieve the flour and salt into a mixing bowl, then rub in the margarine until it resembles fine breadcrumbs.
  • Gradually add cold water, mixing to make a stiff dough.
  • Don't over-handle the pastry as this will make it tough.
  • Put in a plastic bag and allow to rest in the fridge for about 1/2 hour.
  • Roll out the pastry on a floured work surface until 1/4cm thick.
  • Use a small plate to cut out circles of pastry.
  • Place a filling in a line across the circle, then paint around edge with milk, pulling the two sides together and pinch along the join with finger and thumb making sure pasty is well sealed.
  • Bake in the oven for 20 mins or until pasatry is golden brown.
