Method

  • Carefully wash your produce, especially the beetroots. You can use a vegetable brush to make sure that you get rid of all the soil.
  • Prepare your produce for the juicer : roughly chop the beetroots, lemon and ginger. Peel and quarter the grapefruit, then halve each quarter. Scoop the seeds out of the pomegranate.
  • This is exactly how I do that. I slice the crown of the pomegranate off. I make incisions all around the skin of the pomegranate, as if I wanted to quarter it, but without cutting all the way through. Then I soak the pomegranate in a bowl of cold water for 10 minutes. After that time, and still working in the bowl of cold water, I break the pomegranate apart, pushing the skin as if I wanted to turn it inside out, revealing the seeds. The skin and the membrane float, while the precious pomegranate seeds sink to the bottom of the bowl. All I then have to do is scoop the skin and membrane out with a skimmer and drain the pomegranate seeds.
  • Once you successfully have your pomegranate seeds, feed them through your juicer together with the beetroot, grapefruit, lemon and ginger.
  • As with all fresh fruit and vegetable juices, this juice if best drunk immediately, as the nutrients and especially the enzymes start deteriorating shortly after juicing. But if you have to keep it, make sure you refrigerate or even freeze it as quickly as possible.
