About Organic Epicure Apples
Organic Epicure Apple. This is a small, firm early season apple. It has a very good dessert quality and is often known as Laxton's Epicure. Parentage: Wealthy x Cox's Orange Pippin. Introduced in 1909 in Bedford it was developed by the Laxton Brothers Nursery.
As far as looks go this is a real beauty, combine that with its small size and you have an apple which children will love. The skin has a yellow background with good streaks of red and orange. Epicure's crunch is yielding rather than breaking, but the texture of its off-white flesh, more fine-grained than coarse, is good if a bit chewy.
The apple is very flavouurful, balanced though more sweet than otherwise. It's cidery and rich with hints of flowers, spice, and a little toast.
