Red Pippins were previously known as Fiesta apples. Medium sized, flat-round fruit. Green skin ripening to yellow mostly covered by a crimson red flush. Very crisp and juicy white flesh. Slightly tough skin. Sweeter than a Cox apple but a very good dessert apple.
Apples are a good source of dietary fibre and vitamin C. Most of the apple's fibre is contained in its skin, as is the majority of its quercetin, a potent antioxidant. Choosing organically grown apples means that you can avoid any pesticide residues or petroleum-based waxes in the skin.
