About Engevita Yeast Flakes with added B12

Engevita yeast is one of the richest natural sources of the B group of vitamins. It is also rich in protein, amino acids, enzymes, minerals and trace elements. Engevita is a purely natural food, specifically produced for human consumption and is a purely natural food, a primary strain of Saccharomyces Cerevasiae, it's grown on enriched purified molasses under carefully controlled conditions, this ensures freedom from candida albicans yeast.

Engevita has such a pleasant taste, it can be consumed as it is. It is also readily dissolved in water, milk, fruit or vegetable juices and can be sprinkled on soups, stews, casseroles, salads and breakfast cereals to enhance the flavour.

I think Engevita is DELICIOUS! I have a good amount folded into my bowl of salad every day, and it adds the most wonderful umami taste. My three adult children all buy it now too. Yum yum yum!

I THINK THE ENGEVITA WITH ADDED VITAMIN B12 isn't as 'cheesy tasting' as the one without - I think they're both great and often add them on top of pasta dishes or beans on toast or in plain crisps shaken about to make a cheesy taste - good for mixing in with your cat or dogs meal if you are feeding them veggie/vegan meals too.

I'm very confused about the B12 claims of this product. It says "added B12", yet the ingredients does not list B12, which it would legally have to do if B12 is added and B12 does not naturally occur in yeast at such levels. The best info I could get on this is that the yeast is "grown in a special high B12 medium", which doesn't tell much. I think I will get the non-B12 version in future and use supplements to top up on B12.

As for the actual product, it looks a bit like fish flakes :) It's very crumbly and can be sprinkled onto foods to add a savoury flavour. I use it for making vegan bean burgers, where you can't really taste it in the finished product.

The flavour itself is described as "cheesy", but I haven't really found it to be so. The taste is hard to describe: hints of cheese, yes, slightly salty. "Savoury" is probably the best way I can describe it. It's not unpleasant, but I didn't find it as nice as many other people have been describing it. I couldn't eat it by itself, but mixed with stronger flavours, it's okay.

Raw Vegan Herb Coated Fermented Macadamia Cheese Recipe

Summary: It is so easy to make a basic Raw Vegan Nut or Seed Cheese : choose one or a combination of nuts or seeds, soak them for a few hours, then blend them with a probiotic (the liquid from fermented vegetables or the contents of a probiotic capsule), and then allow the mixture to ferment to your desired sourness, that's it ! To this cheese base you can then add flavourings of your choice, including nutritional yeast, which interestingly enough, does have a cheesy flavour. Making your own Raw Vegan Cheese might sound like a complicated process, but each individual step only takes a few minutes and will keep well in the fridge. Serve with a green salad and crackers, or as a topping on a large salad.

Raw Vegan Vegetable Lasagna with Fermented Cashew Cheeze Recipe

Summary: Do you love lasagna, but you avoid the traditional recipe because you are vegan, gluten-free, raw, or just wanting to improve your diet and make healthier food choices ? If yes, you will love this recipe : the wheat lasagna sheets are replaced with thin slices of ultra low calorie courgette ; the raw marinara tomato sauce is quick to make, and can be made oil free. The fermented vegan cashew cheeze sauce provides beneficial probiotics, if you have the time to allow the cheese to age. Last but not least, this raw vegan lasagna passes the taste test : in fact, it is so delicious that you will not be left missing the original !

Raw Vegan Wild Garlic Spring Greens Pesto Recipe

Summary: Traditional Pesto calls for generous quantities of basil, but wild garlic and other herbs, greens and edible weeds also make for equally tasty pestos. This Raw Vegan Wild Spring Greens Pesto uses wild garlic, plentiful in Spring, various foraged edible wild greens : chickweed, dandelion, lamb's quarters, ... and spring baby spinach. Cashews and flaked almonds bring crunch, while nutritional yeast replaces the traditional hard cheese flavour, and this version leaves the garlic out, due to the heavy presence of wild garlic. Absolutely delicious on toast, pasta, eggs, in sandwiches, to make a pesto risotto or even as a dip for raw vegetable sticks.
