About Organic Black Fox Cider
This is a deliciously robust medium dry sparkling cider boasting a rich, peaty taste with notes of apple. Savour it on its own or as an accompaniment to hearty dishes or cheeses. Legend has it that a black fox stalked the Herefordshire, evading all farmers' attempts to capture it. An old saying goes: 'He went home like the hounds following the black fox' - which means to walk home staggering after drinking too much cider!
Ivor and Susie Dunkerton have been producing delicious cider at their orchard in Herefordshire since 1979, after escaping London to try a taste of the 'good life'. After trying to make a living from a smallholding of 18 acres, they decided to give cider making a go, and they've never looked back. They were the first cider makers in Herefordshire to convert to organic methods in 1988, and their mill and cider press date back to 1930. Ivor and Susie grow old varieties of cider apples such as Sweet Coppin, Dabinett, Stoke Red and Foxwhelp. They take great pride in making their ciders, and after pressing the apples, they ferment and store the juices separately for one year before blending them together. They take their time over the blending process, which requires immense skill to keep the cider in peak condition.
