Organic Jersey Royal Potatoes. Jersey Royals are a PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) meaning that only potatoes grown on Jersey in their rich soil and temperate climate can call themselves Jersey Royals. Famed for their sweet taste, Jersey Royal's are a kidney shaped potato with pale-yellow skin and pale-yellow flesh which is waxy when young. Excellent boiled or as a salad potato.
Despite the potatoes popular reputation as a high-carbohydrate, white starch food, they are in fact an exceptionally healthful low calorie, high fibre food that offers protection against cardiovascular disease and cancer. Unlike other carbohydrates, such as pasta and rice, potatoes are a great source of vitamin C, especially the skins (100g of Jersey Royal New Potatoes would provide you with 25% of the RDA for vitamin C).
