Gluten Free Baby Rice And Spinach Puree Recipe

A smart way to feed your baby is to feed her or him the same things the rest of the family eats as much as possible : let's say it's a tofu casserole with brown rice and wilted spinach for everyone, just blend a little cooked brown rice and spinach together for your baby. As always for baby food, choose organic ingredients ideally, and put the baby's food aside before adding any salt or sugar (if you do), as no baby needs those. Adjust quantities according to baby's age and appetite, or if you want, make a few portions and freeze.

Method

  • To cook brown rice, soak 1 measure rice overnight in plenty of filtered water (at least 3 measures). When ready to cook, place the rinsed and drained rice in a lidded saucepan with 2 measures filtered water. Bring to the boil, then reduce heat to low and allow to simmer until the rice has absorbed all the water.
  • If using wilted spinach, wilt your spinach in water, not oil. Set aside some spinach for baby before adding adding oil or seasonings for the rest of the family. If using the spinach raw, just wash and allow to drain.
  • Blend the cooked (cooled) rice, the spinach and nutmeg (if using) until smooth. Add enough water to get the right consistency depending on your baby's age.
