3 Ingredients Vegan Natural Deodorant Recipe

This 3 ingredients homemade deodorant is one of the easiest you could ever make. No melting involved, just put all 3 ingredients into a small bowl and mix until everything is well combined. Done in 5 minutes, tops. Coconut oil provides natural odour protection thanks to its antibacterial properties, since body odour is produced as the bacteria on the skin break down the acids in our sweat. Being alkaline, Sodium Bicarbonate raises the pH of the acid mantle (the thin, slightly acidic layer of sweat and sebum on the skin), hence inhibiting the growth of acid sweat-loving, odour-forming bacteria. Cornstarch and Arrowroot both help absorb moisture. You can choose to add an essential oil for scent or one that has antibacterial properties:Lavender wins on both counts. This recipe makes enough to fill a 30ml jar.

Method

  • You can use solid or liquid coconut oil, but you don't need to melt it, as long as it is soft enough to handle. You just don't want it rock-hard, as it will be difficult to mix to a smooth paste with the powders.
  • Put the coconut oil, sodium bicarbonate, cornstarch and essential oil (if using) in a small bowl.
  • Mix well, until everything is combined. Transfer to a small clean glass jar, and use a small wooden lolly stick to apply a little deodorant to each armpit right after showering and drying the skin.
