About Strong Earl Grey Tea Leaves

A delicious black tea, flavoured with Bergamot to give the distinctive smell and taste beloved by so many. The Earl Grey blend is named after the 2nd Earl Grey, British Prime Minister in the 1830s and author of the Reform Bill of 1832, who reputedly received a gift of tea flavoured with bergamot oil, a citrus fruit typical of Southeast Asia and grown commercially in Italy. Earl Grey tea is used as a flavouring for many types of cakes and confectionery, such as chocolates, as well as savoury sauces. For sauces, the flavour is normally created by adding tea bags to the basic stock, boiling for a few minutes and then discarding the bags. For sweet recipes, loose tea is often added to melted butter and strained after the flavour is infused.

Production Process: Tea goes into a spinning flavouring drum and sprayed with bergamot oil. It is then allowed to absorb overnight and packed the following day into laminated kraft paper bags. For maximum freshness. Smaller sizes are packed down into Plastic Free packaging.

Customer reviews

I think this gives me a much fuller flavoured tea than when using t-bags. I love Earl Grey tea and this is some of the best!

Low Fat Vegan Christmas Cake Recipe

Summary: This rich fruit cake is just unbelievable : it it made without eggs, butter or margarine or oil, has no added sugar, yet it tastes just as delicious and decadent as you would expect any good Christmas cake to. The magic trick here is to replace the butter-sugar-egg mixture with dates blended with water. Using wholemeal flour further increases the fibre content, making this Christmas cake healthier. I used mixed vine fruit with peel, but the peel does contain sugar. To keep it really sugar free, stick to mixed vine fruit : sultanas, raisins and currants, and be sure to choose those with no added sugar. Also, I chose to decorate the cake with some home-made, low sugar vegan marzipan on the top, but beware that this would also increase the sugar content, unless you make your marzipan with xylitol.
