About Arame Dried Sea Vegetable

Traditional Japanese sea vegetable. In Japan, sea vegetables have long been a staple food, prized for their varied flavours, their versatility in use and their natural goodness. They are now recognised as a valuable part of a healthy wholefood diet throughout the world.

Clearspring Arame grows wild along Japan's rocky Pacific coast. The young wide-leaves plants are hand harvested in late summer, simmered all day in their own juices, then cut into thin strips and naturally sun-dried.

Arame's sweet, delicate flavour make it an excellent choice for introducing sea vegetables into your daily diet.

To prepare, soak arame in cool water for 10-15 minutes (it will double in volume). Drain well and rinse briefly.

Good for stir fries and salads.

Arame Seaweed is a sea vegetable that typically comes in small flaky strips like these. They are typically added to soups, stir-fries and salads, and have a typically crunchy texture and seaweedy taste. Arame seaweed has a more delicate flavour than most seaweeds, and so is especially good for those who are first trying seaweed. It goes well with tofu, sushi and other oriental ingredients.

Like most seaweed, arame is very dark green in colour. It can be added to soups as-is, but is usually soaked before adding to stir-fries or salads. Arame seaweed is very high in fibre, and can be used to boost the fibre content of meals. It is also high in iron, protein and magnesium.

Clearspring Arame Seaweed is from the species Eisenia bicyclis, which is harvested from the wild and dried in Japan. No added ingredients.

Spicy Kimchi Recipe from Real Foods

Summary: Kimchi is a delicious spicy Korean salted fermented pickle often eaten asa side dish. It's actually a very simple and easy recipe to make at home, and a good result is not difficult with the right ingredients. Traditional Korean Kimchi recipes include sugar and anchovy sauce, so we like to add an apple to get some of the sweetness, and we add a little miso and kelp powder or a little seaweed for the umami flavour that the fermented fish would normally bring. You could also add different fruits and vegetables to your kimchi, such as spinach or other leafy greens, broccoli, mushrooms, thinly sliced beetroot, pineapple, and also fresh herbs, sesame or other seeds, etc, so feel free to experiment and add variety to your homemade kimchi.
