About Organic Damson Plum
Sometimes called the Damask plum, damsons are a subspecies of the plum tree. They are commonly used in the preparation of jams and jellies and work well in cooking. The name damson derives from the earlier term "damascene", and ultimately from the Latin prunum damascenum, "plum of Damascus".
Both high in sugars and highly astringent, Damsons are tart in flavour and are often cooked, somewhat similar to cranberries they are used in cooked dishes to add tartness or sweetness and are widely used in jam and jelly making. Damson gin and Damson wine have also been popular over the years.
