About Organic Barley Grass
Raw Living organic Barleygrass powder is made by growing fresh grass from the barley grain, then drying out the fresh young leaf and grinding it down to a fine powder. There is no trace of the gluten from the grain in the sprout, so it is not a problem for people who are intolerant to grains. Barleygrass is one of the most alkaline foods we can consume. Alkalinity is one of the essential conditions needed for the cells to thrive, and modern Western lifestyles are very acidic: stressful, rushed, and full of acid-forming foods. Filling our bodies with alkaline foods is a great de-stresser, and a wonderful way to fuel ourselves.
Barleygrass is the number one alkalising food. As such it is very cleansing and rebalancing, it has a pleasant almost sweet taste which is not overpowering, and complements vegetable dishes well.
The use of barley, for food and nutritional purposes, dates back to ancient times. Roman gladiators ate barley for strength and stamina. In the West, it was first known for the barley grain it produces.
Barleygrass contains all the essential amino acids, so is a fantastic source of vegetarian protein. It's also a great source of minerals and vitamins, particularly B vitamins.
Suggested serving size: Start with 1-2 tsp, work up to 1-2 tbsp in a day.
How to use: Barleygrass has a pleasant, slightly sweet, almost apple-like flavour. It is very refreshing and goes well with lemons. Put a spoon in a glass of lemon water and drink it down for a cleansing drink, or stir a spoonful into your hummus or vegetable pate.
