Spice up your Valentine's day with some Natural Aphrodisiacs

Aubergines

A well timed aubergine emoji can certainly help get your, ahem, “feelings” across. Aubergines are prized in India as an aphrodisiac: The Kama Sutra advises couples to rub the juice on each other's bodies to arouse desire. Maybe you could try it with an aubergine pasta sauce; I think I might give that a miss this year!

Avocados

Another titillatingly shaped vegetable, the avocado, has long been considered an aphrodisiac. The Aztecs names them “achuacatl”, the translation of which I will let you Google. Nutritionally, they can certainly support reproductive health, being high in folic acid, B9 and B6. It’s good levels of vitamin E also support skin health, helping you to glow.

Asparagus

Known for its phallic shape, asparagus, like avocados, is high in folate, B6 and vitamin E. A feminist vegetable, these work together to boost sex hormones in both men and women.

Chilis

Whilst red faced and sweating isn’t the best way to start a romantic evening, chilis certainly get you warmed up! Capsaicin, the chemical which gives them their spice, has also been shown to increase heart rate and boost testosterone levels.

Pistachios

Studies have found regularly including pistachios in your diet can help to increase blood flow. Whilst more research is needed, why not try our Persian love cake recipe, and see if it works for you!

Maca, Saffron, and Fenugreek. Natural aphrodisiacs.

Maca

Maca is one of the oldest natural aphrodisiacs. It is a sweet root vegetable from Peru, widely available in powdered form. Maca has been shown to increase sperm motility, as well as libido, although it is unclear why. Add Maca powder to baked goods and smoothies, or simply sprinkle it on your cereal.

Fenugreek

Fenugreek has been used for centuries in Ayurveda to boost desire in both men and women.

Saffron

Saffron's appeal may be linked to its great expense, but it is also thought to boost libido, especially in those suffering from depression.

Essential Oils

A massage is always a good way to get passions running, but the right essential oils can make a difference. Patchouli and sandalwood are considered to be particularly desirable oils. Why not try adding a few drops of each to your preferred carrier oil or diffuser.

Snuggle up with your loved one and a bar of Conscious Chocolate's Love Potion No. 9.

Chocolate

Last but not least, chocolate; a traditional valentine’s gift for a reason! Chocolate contains tryptophan, the precursor to serotonin, and phenylethylamine which is released when someone is in love. Whilst we have a huge range of delicious chocolate treats, I would recommend taking full advantage of Conscious Chocolate’s Love Potion this weekend.

If you’re lucky enough to have someone special in your life, make the most of it, and remember to stay safe in these trying times.
