Vegan Savoury Breakfast Rice Recipe

Rice is often eaten for breakfast all around Asia, from stir fried rice to rice in a broth to rice cakes. Think miso soup meets rice, and you get this delicious japanese inspired rice bowl that can be enjoyed for breakfast or at any time of the day as a snack.

You will need

1 cup or 200g white short grain rice OR More products
1 cup or 200g brown short grain rice More products
3 cups or 750ml water, if using white rice OR
4 cups or 1l water, if using brown rice
4 tbsp miso More products
4 tbsp toasted sesame oil More products
4 sprigs spring onion, finely chopped More products
nori flakes More products
furikake (optional) More products

  • Rinse, then drain the rice and put it in a saucepan with the adequate quantity of water, depending on whether you are using white or brown rice.
  • Bring to the boil, then continue cooking on low heat until the rice is very soft and it has absorbed all the water.
  • When the rice is cooked to a porridge-like consistency, dilute the miso in a little hot water and add that to the rice and mix thoroughly.
  • Serve the miso rice into 4 individual bowls and top with the toasted sesame oil, spring onion, nori flakes and furikake.
  • Enjoy hot.
