About Organic Red Pippin Apples

Red Pippins were previously known as Fiesta apples. Medium sized, flat-round fruit. Green skin ripening to yellow mostly covered by a crimson red flush. Very crisp and juicy white flesh. Slightly tough skin. Sweeter than a Cox apple but a very good dessert apple.

Apples are a good source of dietary fibre and vitamin C. Most of the apple's fibre is contained in its skin, as is the majority of its quercetin, a potent antioxidant. Choosing organically grown apples means that you can avoid any pesticide residues or petroleum-based waxes in the skin.

I like to chose a different variety of apples every time I shop at Real Foods as they have so many to chose from at this time of year. I must admit though, that this one I often come back to as it really does taste good.

Thai Bean Burgers Sweet Potato Curls and Chilli Tomato Jam

Summary: For an alternative to the traditional Valentines dinner out, take your beloved's taste buds on a holiday to exotic Thailand with these vegan and gluten-free bean burgers coupled with a chilli and tomato jam, both flavoured with Thai spices. Serve with lovely oven-baked sweet potato curly fries, to let them know how sweet they are. You can also make these on any day of the year, not just on Valentines Day, of course. I like to make them with black beans for their high content of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory phytonutrients, you can use adzuki beans, chickpeas or even cannellini or butter beans. It might seam like a lot of instructions, but please don't let that put you off, as every step is very straight forward.

Raw Vegan Carrot Apple Orange Smoothie Recipe

Summary: This vibrant orange number was inspired by the popular carrot apple orange juice. A bit like ACE juice, named that way because it is rich in vitamins A, C and E, but with added apple and ginger, because we love ginger for its warming and antibacterial properties. Beta-carotene is another good reason to drink this. We start by juicing the carrots, apples, lemons and ginger, but instead of juicing the oranges too, we blend the juice with the whole peeled oranges to make sure we get the precious orange pulp and all those citrus bio flavonoids. We also keep the proportion of apples and oranges to carrots low : more vegetable sweetness, less fruit sugar.
