Customer reviews
I found the smaller packs to be a very different product to the 25kg bags. I would rate the smaller packs as very good. As I was impressed with the quality of the small packs I decided to order a 25kg sack. However when I started using it, I found it was a different quality. Firstly, there was an excessive amount of blackish bits in it which kept coming to the surface despite removing them five or six times. I have never had oatmeal with this much unidentifiable bits in it. Secondly, on closer examination I noticed that the sack stated that the oatmeal had been 'stabilised'. This turns out to be steam processing which I would not have expected. I cannot recommend this product.

We buy a 25kg sack of this every 12-18 months and use it to make porridge every day, medium oatmeal not being easily obtainable where we live. It is what it is, stoneground medium oatmeal and it makes very nice porridge with water and a little salt. We are about to order another sack. With a barrel of salt herring we'd be set up for a year as a seventeenth-century student at Aberdeen University. It is also good for parkin and for many other purposes. Re Chris Williams comment on 'stabilisation'/heat processing: all oat products for human consumption are heat treated, even whole groats, otherwise they go rancid in days.

I have a great recipe for oatmeal and apricot stuffing which this medium oatmeal is perfect for. I have also, with varying degrees of success tried making oatcakes with any that I didn't use in the stuffing. Perhaps a face mask might be more successful another time.
