About Organic Banana

Organic Bananas from Real Foods. These bananas are sourced from the Dominican Republic, although on occasion the country of origin does change due to availability or quality issues (please contact us if you require country of origin confirmation). One of the most widely consumed fruits in the world, bananas are officially classed as a berry! Banana cultivation goes back to 3000 B.C.E. and possibly even as early as 8000 B.C.E.

Bananas grow in hot climates and are unused to the cold. This is why it's recommended they are stored at around 10 degrees Celsius. They are green when harvested and begin ripening once picked. If your bananas are green and you'd like to ripen them quickly follow this link to learn how to ripen bananas

Don't put unripe bananas in the fridge, the cold will inhibit the ripening process and they may never ripen correctly, once yellow (ripe) you can store them in the fridge if you like. Bananas that are browning can be frozen for a tasty dairy-free version of ice-cream or use in banana bread or smoothies.

Bananas contain vitamins B6, A and C, fibre, tryptophan, potassium, phosphorous, iron and protein. They also have FOS (fructo-oligo-saccharides) to help feed 'good' bacteria in the gut and thus aid digestion. You'll get a quick boost from the fructose (fruit sugars) and sustaining energy from the fibre, which can help prevent a blood sugar spike and a resultant drop in energy and mood. Carbohydrates aid in the absorption of tryptophan in the brain, and vitamin B6 helps convert the tryptophan into mood-lifting serotonin, also helping to boost your mood and aid good sleep. Bananas are also a great source of potassium. Whilst potassium isn't directly related to mood, it is needed to regulate fluid levels and keep muscles working properly, which is important to feel energised, key for a sunny outlook! Finally, bananas also offer iron, which is crucial to producing energy and fighting fatigue. Customer reviews

Chop the banana, freeze it and when frozen, blend it for a few minutes. For some unknown reason it turns into a creamy dessert instead of ice shards! No hassle, just add a dollop of berries or peanut butter if you want it flavoured.

Bananas are my go-to post workout snack. Bananas are super sweet, but I find that my body needs the sugar after exercise, and because bananas are a great source of Potassium, they help reduce cramps and sore muscles. Good that you can only buy 1 at a time, too, if you don't eat too many of them. Thank you.

It does not often happen, but if these bananas do become over-ripe they are great in banana bread.
