About Coarse Ground Black Pepper

An essential ingredient in so much cooking, you shouldn't be without them!

Black pepper is produced from the still-green unripe berries of the pepper plant. The berries are cooked briefly in hot water, both to clean them and to prepare them for drying. The heat ruptures cell walls in the pepper, speeding the work of browning enzymes during drying. The berries are dried in the sun or by machine for several days, during which the pepper around the seed shrinks and darkens into a thin, wrinkled black layer. Once dried, the spice is called black peppercorn.

Customer reviews

I am not a big fan of pepper but sometimes you just have to add it to a dish so I am very glad that I cab buy ib different quantities and not end up with too much in the cupboard.

Vegetarian Easy Nut Loaf Recipe

Summary: Nut roast is a staple for all vegetarians for a warming family Sunday lunch or dinner, to go alongside potatoes and fresh seasonal vegetables. This nut loaf is quick and easy enough to feature on your weekly menu, whilst tasty enough to be the star of your Christmas or other celebration dinner. Brazil nuts are particularly good in this, as they have a mild sweet taste, but walnuts will work well too, so will your favourite nuts, and peanuts will keep the cost down.

Protein Rich Homemade Vegan Seitan Recipe

Summary: Seitan is a very popular meat substitute, that is for people who tolerate gluten well. It is made by mixing wheat gluten (extracted from wheat flour) with water into a dough, shaping the dough and then boiling or baking it. Once cooked and cooled, the Seitan can be sliced or cubed, and then prepared as you would prepare tofu or texturised vegetable protein. Seitan is super versatile in that it absorbs the flavour of any seasonings you add to it, or any sauce you cook it in or serve it with. I like this basic recipe where I simply flavour the Seitan with freshly chopped onion (or onion powder if kneading the dough by hand because it can be difficult for the dough to hold the onion pieces if kneaded by hand) and garlic powder, nutritional yeast, chilli and black pepper ; I then boil it in a broth made with vegetable bouillon, onion, garlic and bay leaves.

High Protein Vegan Puy Lentil and Smoked Tofu Casserole Recipe

Summary: Le Puy Lentil are dark green lentils from France which are renowned for their flavour and the fact that they hold their shape during cooking. They are the only lentils in the world to have a Protected Designation of Origin, as they are only grown in the Le Puy region in France. Le Puy lentils go really well with smoky flavours, and this Vegan Puy Lentil and Smoked Tofu Casserole is truly a delicious combination, perfect for a high protein dinner that could also double up as a lunch box
