About Coarse Ground Black Pepper

An essential ingredient in so much cooking, you shouldn't be without them!

Black pepper is produced from the still-green unripe berries of the pepper plant. The berries are cooked briefly in hot water, both to clean them and to prepare them for drying. The heat ruptures cell walls in the pepper, speeding the work of browning enzymes during drying. The berries are dried in the sun or by machine for several days, during which the pepper around the seed shrinks and darkens into a thin, wrinkled black layer. Once dried, the spice is called black peppercorn.

Customer reviews

I am not a big fan of pepper but sometimes you just have to add it to a dish so I am very glad that I cab buy ib different quantities and not end up with too much in the cupboard.

Roasted Carrots and Salsifies Recipe

Summary: The simplest way to prepare salsify is to roast them, drizzled with some good quality olive oil, a whole garlic head, a few bay leaves and a small bunch of fresh thyme. Leave their very much edible skins on for extra nutrition, but if you do peel them, try to do as and soak them in cold water with a little vinegar to stop the delicate cream flesh from browning. Pair them with carrots or your favourite root vegetables for a lovely side dish.

Beluga Lentils and Goats Cheese Salad with Homemade Croutons Recipe

Summary: Cheese and lentils might not be a very common salad combination, but the Beluga Lentils and the goats cheese combine incredibly well in this recipe to deliver a filling and satisfying, yet light and fresh salad, with a beautiful contrast of colours, flavours and textures. Soft and chewy, yet also crunchy. You could of course use canned or pre-cooked Beluga lentils, but the secret here lies in infusing the lentils with onion, garlic and thyme deliciousness as they cook. If you have never made your own croutons, this recipe is pure gold, even if you only make the croutons, as you will be amazed at how easy and incredibly delicious they are to make. You will wonder why you settled for the shop-bought version for so long. These awesome homemade garlic and parsley croutons will work great in other salads and as a topping on your favourite soups. Serves 2 as a main meal or 4 as a starter.
