About Bicarbonate of Soda

Bicarbonate of Soda, Baking Soda, Bicarb, whatever you want to call it, this is a great versatile addition to your household.

It can neutralise acid, scrub shiny materials without scratching, deodorise, and extinguish grease fires. It can be used as a deodoriser in the refrigerator, on smelly carpets, on upholstery and on vinyl. It can help deodorise drains. It can clean and polish aluminium, chrome, jewellery, plastic, porcelain, silver, stainless steel and tin. It can soften fabrics and remove certain stains and also soften hard water.

Bicarbonate of soda, or baking soda, is used to raise soda breads and full-flavoured cakes such as gingerbread, fruit cake, chocolate cake and carrot cake. It needs an acid (as well as moisture) to activate it so is often combined with cream of tartar, yoghurt, buttermilk or milk.

Customer reviews

Incredibly useful stuff this bicarb, obviously you use it in baking ( I add 2 spoons of cream of tartar to 1 of bicarb to make my own baking powder) but it also cleans the house without destroying the planet! I think everyone should have it in their house.

3 Ingredients Vegan Natural Deodorant Recipe

Summary: This 3 ingredients homemade deodorant is one of the easiest you could ever make. No melting involved, just put all 3 ingredients into a small bowl and mix until everything is well combined. Done in 5 minutes, tops. Coconut oil provides natural odour protection thanks to its antibacterial properties, since body odour is produced as the bacteria on the skin break down the acids in our sweat. Being alkaline, Sodium Bicarbonate raises the pH of the acid mantle (the thin, slightly acidic layer of sweat and sebum on the skin), hence inhibiting the growth of acid sweat-loving, odour-forming bacteria. Cornstarch and Arrowroot both help absorb moisture. You can choose to add an essential oil for scent or one that has antibacterial properties:Lavender wins on both counts. This recipe makes enough to fill a 30ml jar.

Fluoride Free Ayurvedic Tulsi Toothpaste Recipe

Summary: This homemade toothpaste uses natural antiviral and antibacterial coconut oil, Ayurvedic hero tulsi, tooth whitening bicarbonate of soda and cavities mending xylitol. Tulsi helps keep your teeth in top condition and fights bad breath. As this toothpaste contains bicarbonate of soda, it is not to be used everyday, every other day at most. Replace half of the bicarbonate of soda with more tulsi, or fine sea salt if you plan to use it everyday.
