About Organic Apricot Unsulphured Turkey

Are they good for you?
Apricots are an excellent source of vitamin A, a very good source of vitamin C, and a good source of dietary fibre and potassium. Apricots contain phytochemicals called carotenoids, compounds that give red, orange and yellow colours to fruits and vegetables. The powerful antioxidant lycopene is one of the carotenoids found in apricots.
One cup of dried apricots provides 94% of your body's daily need for Vitamin A and 19% of its iron. Dried apricots also contain potassium and antioxidants and have been known to lower cholesterol and improve digestion. Dried apricots are fat-free, low in calories & high in flavour.

What can they be used for?
These Organic Apricots are sourced from Turkey. The Turkish idiom "bundan iyisi Sam'da kayisi" (literally, the only thing better than this is an apricot in Damascus) means "it doesn't get any better than this" and used when something is the very best it can be, like a delicious apricot from Damascus.
Fresh apricots are at their peak for only a short period, and do not keep or travel well. Drying is one method of preserving their goodness, and happily improves the flavour as well.

These Organic Apricots contain no sulphites for preservation, these organic dried apricots are brown because they are sun-dried: sunlight oxidises their flesh, which acts as a natural preservative. These are sweet, plump, almost tangy apricots.

One of the most versatile dried fruits, apricots can be used in sweet and savoury dishes. Try them in Moroccan tagines, North Indian curries, Persian stews and South African barbecue sauces. The flavour also pairs well with almonds, anise, apple, black pepper, caramel, cardamom, cinnamon, coconut, cranberry, ginger, hazelnut, honey, lemon, nutmeg, orange, peach, pineapple, plum, rosemary, strawberry, and vanilla. The floral flavor of lavender is a natural match for apricot's sweetness; try adding it to your favorite apricot jam recipe. Rosemary's resinous notes play off both the sweet and tart aspects of apricots.
You can also use them as delicious snack just as they are.

How do you store them?
Store in an airtight container in your food cupboard for up to 6 month ? in the fridge they will last up to 12 months. If you want to freeze them, they will last 18 months or longer.
But we really doubt that you will want to keep them for that long ? even if you buy a bigger size to get the best price, we think you will keep dipping in and nibbling away at them.

What is a serving size?
A single serving of apricots would be 30gm

I'm not a big dried fruit fan and prior to tasting these I would have said that dried apricots were the worst of the dried fruits but omg, these are divine! They are really sweet and flavoursome - nothing like the bland sulphured kind

By Alex on 27/04/2021

I adore these. Personally I much prefer them to orange apricots full of SO2. I eat them straight from the bag or I soak them and eat them all plump and juicy. They are great in an apricot sponge too once they have been soaked. (If you don't soak them first they suck all the moisture out of the sponge)Soak them in alcohol for a boozy treat!

By Moira Hunt on 06/08/2014

These are great, properly organic and without the SO2! I use them for a slow cooked tagine and they're lovely.

By kim on 08/05/2014

I was surprised how different these tasted from apricots with sulphides added, but once I got over the suprise I decided that I really preferred the taste of these!

Vegan Baby Millet, Apricot And Orange Blossom Water Cream Recipe

Summary: If you are looking to start including new foods into your baby's diet, whole grains such as millet are a very good idea. Blend cooked millet with apricot and a splash of orange blossom water, and you get a deliciously mellow cream. If out of season, substitute the fresh apricot for an organic un-sulphured dried apricot, soaked in filtered water for a couple of hours. As always for baby food, choose organic ingredients, and do not add any salt or sugar. Please feel free to multiply quantities for as many portions as you would like to make and freeze.
