About Peasemeal

Peasemeal is a highly versatile, healthy and nutritious food used since Roman times and growing again in popularity. This product is unique to Golspie Mill where it is made from roasted yellow field peas milled through three sets of mill stones to produce a fine yellow flour. Traditionally used for making Peasemeal brose, (adding meal to boiling milk or water with a knob of butter and seasoning to taste) it has many quick innovative modern uses and can be used as a crispy coating, adds a lovely flavour to white sauces, and makes very healthy vegetarian pate.

Loaded with fibre and high quality protein, roasted dry pea flour is suitable for a wide range of recipes. Its mild, toasty flavour benefits a wide range of bakery goods. This ingredient is tailor-made for low-fat recipes that are gluten-free and cholesterol-free.

The product is NOT certified gluten free. Golspie Mill also grind gluten containing products and they cannot guarantee it is not exposed. Peasemeal itself has no gluten containing ingredients, so it is suitable for those avoiding gluten but not suitable for many coeliacs.

Growing up in Scotland I was introduced to peasebrose by my father and grandpa as a young child.

Made up with butter and seasoning with boiling water and served with ice cold milk to dip in. Absolutely loved it then, and now having found this, it's identical to the original. Having grown up missing this, I'm so glad I found it. Now just wish my old man was sitting in the kitchen enjoying it with me 👍

Thank you the peasbrose arrived very quickly and I am absolutely thrilled with the product. As a child my Mother made us peasbrose as a morning  porriage and had it sent out to Nyasaland (Malawi)Africa from sonewhere in Edinburgh, since my Mother died many years ago I have not been able to find it. Since returning to the U.K. have tried to find a nice peasbrose and have failed until finding this product thank you. Sarah Wynn

So pleased to discover this historic product - featured on the Slow Food U.K list. What an amazing flour: so versatile with a terrific flavour. Makes delicious porridge; instant soups and broths; a great thickener; excellent for batters and breading.... It's a little like chickpea or gram flour but with out the strong "Indian" flavour. It should be in every serious cooks store cupboard. Thank you Golspie Mill.
