Sodium Bicarbonate.

About Bicarbonate of Soda

Bicarbonate of Soda, Baking Soda, Bicarb, whatever you want to call it, this is a great versatile addition to your household.

It can neutralise acid, scrub shiny materials without scratching, deodorise, and extinguish grease fires. It can be used as a deodoriser in the refrigerator, on smelly carpets, on upholstery and on vinyl. It can help deodorise drains. It can clean and polish aluminium, chrome, jewellery, plastic, porcelain, silver, stainless steel and tin. It can soften fabrics and remove certain stains and also soften hard water.

Bicarbonate of soda, or baking soda, is used to raise soda breads and full-flavoured cakes such as gingerbread, fruit cake, chocolate cake and carrot cake. It needs an acid (as well as moisture) to activate it so is often combined with cream of tartar, yoghurt, buttermilk or milk.

Incredibly useful stuff this bicarb, obviously you use it in baking ( I add 2 spoons of cream of tartar to 1 of bicarb to make my own baking powder) but it also cleans the house without destroying the planet! I think everyone should have it in their house.

Homemade Whitening Fluoride Free Toothpaste Recipe

Summary: If like me, you like to reduce the amount of unnecessary exposure to chemicals, you will have started reducing and rethinking everything in your bathroom. Eco-friendly fluoride free toothpaste brands are a great place to start, but if you want to go even further, making your own toothpaste is fun, cheaper, as just as, if not more efficient. This homemade toothpaste makes good use of the natural antiviral and antibacterial qualities of coconut oil, which fights bad breath and promotes good gum health. Sodium Bicarbonate gently whitens teeth and Xylitol has been proven to help prevent and mend cavities. Add essential oil of peppermint for that familiar freshness. As this toothpaste contains bicarbonate of soda, it is not to be used everyday as it could damage enamel, use every other day at most. Replace half of the bicarbonate of soda with tulsi, or fine sea salt if you plan to use it everyday.
