Fruit du jour Cherries

Packing a bunch

Did you know cherries have a number of important health benefits too? Their rich red colour is created by powerful antioxidant anthocyanins, which are said to reduce pain and inflammation. This makes cherries an ideal post-workout snack. Anthocyanins are also thought to be a memory-booster, keeping your mind young.

Packed with vitamins and minerals including beta carotene, vitamin C, potassium, magnesium and iron, it's no wonder cherries have been hailed as a superfood. Add to this the melatonin in cherries that helps to regulate sleep, and we have a pretty good all-rounder.


Cherries bake well

In France, a traditional way to enjoy cherries is in clafoutis, a sweet flan. They are delicious too in cookies, muffins and trifle, or try this recipe of cherry cream,  or serve them with ice cream and frozen yoghurt.
