About Aduki Beans

Aduki beans, a small red bean with a sweet and nutty flavour.

Add cooked beans to soups, stews and rice dishes. When simmered with rice, it gives the rice a nice purple colour.

Soak overnight, bring to the boil in fresh water and simmer for approx 1 hour or alternatively pressure cook for 15 minutes.

Flourless Aduki Beans and Toasted Hazelnuts Brownies Recipe

Summary: Adzuki (or Aduki, or azuki, or English Red Mung) Beans are a very common ingredient in Asian desserts, Japanese in particular, where it is the main ingredient for anko, sweetened red bean paste. High in fibre and protein, Adzuki beans are also a good source of Folate, Potassium, Magnesium and B vitamins. And they happen to have a floury texture and naturally taste slightly sweet, making them a really good alternative to flour in these nutrition packed, delicious fudgy wholefood brownies.

Isobel Kirk Having to plan well in advance if I want to eat aduki beans is a bit of a pain in the neck, but when I do get organised it is well worth it. I love turning my rice purple by cooking it with adukis - it makes me smile everytime!
