About Pine Nut Kernels
Pine nuts or kernels are delicious in salads (toasted or straight), on top of many savoury dishes. Also delicious crushed up in pesto. Try them in pilau rice or rosti, or simply sprinkle over stuffed peppers or mushrooms for added interest to your dishes.
Rich in essential fatty acids and a great source of dietary fibre, Pine Kernels are also known as pine nuts or pine seeds. Pine nuts are one of the calorie-rich edible nuts. 100 g of dry-kernels provide 673 calories. They are high in oleic acid which can help reduce high cholesterol and are a good source of vitamin E.
Pine nuts are highly susceptible to heat, store in a dark place (ideally the fridge) to avoid going rancid. Buying small amounts as you need them is the most cost effective approach.
