About Broken Pecan Nuts

Are they good for you?
This native American tree nut is member of the hickory family. Pecans contain 'good fats' which help to lower cholesterol, they are high in protein and low in carbohydrates.
Pecans are a good source of calcium, magnesium, and potassium, all of which can help lower blood pressure. Most of the fat found in pecans is a healthy type called monounsaturated fat. Eating foods with monounsaturated fat instead of foods high in saturated fats (like potato chips) can help lower levels of bad LDL cholesterol.

What can they be used for?
Broken Pecan Nuts, perfect for snacking on. Smoother than a walnut and great in a pie! Pecans are added to cereals, breads, pastries and cookies and are great in salads, main dishes, as toppings on desserts and of course are eaten as a very nutritious snack.
They go well with recipes for sweet potatoes if you want to add a new dimension to a favourite.
Pecan can also be added to ice cream - yum.

How do you store them?
Best placed in an airtight container and kept in the fridge. They will last for up to 6 months. If you want to keep them longer, they can be put in the freezer where they will last for a year or more.
We predict though that even if you buy one of the larger sizes to get the best price per kg, you will keep nibbling away and be needing more well before a year is up.

What is a serving size?
A single serving of pecan nuts is 28gm.

Really good, bought them for baking and they've done so well I'm back to buy more! Really good to replace walnuts in recipes and great for decorating.

These broken pecans are brilliant for adding to baking or cereal  - call me lazy, but I don't enjoy bashing whole pecans before I use them!
