Walnut Block is the vision of two brothers, and the name comes from the impressive 100 + year old walnut tree (the oldest in Marlborough) which stands in the middle of their Sauvignon Blanc vines.
Harvested by hand and whole bunched press, this limited release Sauvignon represents the pinnacle of their vineyards fruits. Winemaking is carried out using natural ferments and one third of the juice is placed in old French oak barrels, adding to the wines depth and complexity. The balance is fermented in stainless steel to capture the grapes' lively, fresh aromas and fruit purity.
'From an organic vineyard in Rapaura, planted in 1996. Hand-picked grapes. 30% is fermented in old barrels with wild yeast, while the rest is in stainless steel. Very tight, fresh and mineral, with steely citrus and herb aromatics leading to a focused, lively palate showing high acidity and a lemony, mineral core. Tight and youthful with potential for development.' 90/100 Jamie Goode, WineAnorak.com, February 2014 (2013 vintage)
