Acai, pronounced ah-sigh-EE, is native to the Amazon, and grows throughout Central and South America. It is a small, purple berry with a thin flesh and large stone. Its flavour is similar to a berry flavoured chocolate, so it goes great in cacao smoothies!
Fresh acai berries are crushed by indigenous tribes and on average they can consume two litres per day. For some tribes it will make up to 42% of their diet by weight. This organic acai is harvested by hand in the Amazon Basin and freeze dried to retain as many nutrients as possible.
