About Maitake Extract
Maitake (Grifola frondosa) It?s also called King of mushrooms, Dancing mushroom and the Cloud mushroom. The Maitake mushroom, is a fungus, like all mushrooms. It is edible and has been consumed by Asians for thousands of years. During ancient times the Maitake was used as currency, and Asians who had acquired this mushroom were believed to have ?danced with joy? because of their apparent good fortune.
Maitake derived its genus and species name, Grifolia frondosa, from Italy, where it is prized as a delicacy. In mythology, the ?Grifolia? is a half eagle, half lion beast. It?s interesting to note that both the lion and the eagle are associated in cultures around the world with strength and wisdom, two of the health benefits traditionally attributed to Maitake.
The Maitake grows in clusters at the bottom of peach, apricot and plum trees and at the base of large oak trees. It is fruity, earthy and spicy and it absorbs the flavors of whatever is being cooked with it.
