Argan oil is one of the world's most precious culinary oil and is produced using very traditional, labour intensive methods. Produced from the kernels of the argan tree (endemic to Morocco and UNESCO protected) which is valued for its nutritive, cosmetic and numerous medicinal purposes. It takes about 15 hours and 30kg of fruit to produce 1L of argan oil!
Health benefits: This golden nutty oil is rich in Vitamin E, carotenes and unsaturated fatty acids (Omega 6 and 9). In fact argan oil contains twice the levels of vitamin E than olive oil making it a powerful antioxidant. Regular dietary intake may lead to reduced levels of harmful cholesterol and is highly likely to be one factor helping the prevention of cardiovascular diseases and obesity.
How to use it: Drizzle on couscous, use in salads and tagines or as a dip for bread.
